We started selling our mix pretty much because our customers would email us and ask for it.
The request became so frequent that we decided to make it official and provide the mix available to anyone who would like some.
The mix is derived from an orchid mix that I have been making for myself for over 25 years. The main difference is that to accommodate the fact that Clivia are "dirt plants" and not epiphytes (growing on other trees etc) we have added composted vegetative matter (that we buy, not compost ourselves) into the mix.
The mix contains coconut husk (chips), both medium and small size, often New Zealand Sphagnum Moss, Sponge Rock, Compost, some charcoal, sometimes a bit of lava rock, and other materials I locate that are appropriate for Clivia growing. (Sometimes I use a bit of sand and/or bark). You will receive whatever we are mixing for ourselves currently based on our own growing and research.
The key to the success of the mix is that it drains fast and holds nutrients.
I buy the sponge rock in large bags. The coconut is purchased in compressed bales, and other ingredients are bought in the largest bags in kilos as possible or simply big bags.
The mix weight varies quite a lot per box depending on water weight. Again this is the mix we are using today so depending on what we are doing it can be over 3lbs or it can be substantially lighter. You must use volume to judge the amount you are receiving. Please be aware of this as the 2.75lb website weight will add quite a lot to your shipping order. You get approximately 1 gallon In Volume of our mix, and it comes bagged in 1 large bag or 2 small ones.
